Special Rules for the Junior Academy 4v4 Format

1. The Field of Play
   1. Each team will set up and breakdown their goal for each game
2. The Ball
   1. A size 3 ball should be used for the U8 age group
3. Number of Players and Substitutions
   1. Each team will ideally have four players on the field at a time
   2. There will be no goalies
   3. Substitutions may be done on the fly
   4. Coaches are encouraged to rotate players
4. Players' Equipment
   1. We require every participant to wear shin guards
   2. We recommend soccer socks high enough to cover the shin guard
   3. Reversible jerseys will be provided to every player. Home and Away teams will be announced in advance
   4. Water is highly recommended
      
5. Referees
   1. A maximum of 1 coach from each team will be on the field at once to act as a referee and time-keeper
6. Duration of the game
   1. All games will consist of a 30 minute practice period followed by a 30 minute game.
7. Start of Game
   1. Play will start with a kickoff at center field
   2. Opposing players must be at least five yards away from the ball at kick-off
   3. kick-off will also be used after a goal is scored
8. Ball in and out of play conforms to normal soccer rules
   1. Balls out of play over the end line conform to normal soccer rules
   2. Ball out of play over the side line will be put back into play by the team who did not kick the ball out with either a pass in or throw in.
   3. 1st grade division will use the pass in with the throw in introduced during the season
   4. 2nd grade division will use the throw in
9. Score will not be kept
10. Fouls, Free Kicks, Offside Rule will not be used but coaches will be mindful of dangerous play.
11. Teams should shake hands at the end of each game and say a cheer for their opponents
